When thinking of high-end, luxury footwear and accessories the name Jimmy Choo may come to mind, yet most people have no idea that the primere label was built from the ground up by savvy fashion mogul, Tamara Mellon. After taking on the title of  accessories editor for British Vogue in 1990, Mellon discovered a void in the arena of high-end designer accessories/footwear and implored shoe mason Jimmy Choo to start a business. Eventually the brand would grow into a $900 million enterprise, reaching mega stardom after being uttered off the lips of Sex and the City's most fashionably influential character, Carrie Bradshaw. This was closely trailed by a celebrity following, as the brand quickly achieved notoriety for the gorgeous, classic, yet interestingly sensual stiletto design, both comfortable and beautifully crafted.

In 2011 Mellon parted ways with Jimmy Choo, deciding to follow her dream of starting her own designer label under her name, Tamara Mellon in November 2013. No doubt this inspirational woman has all the expertise, fashion sense, and business acumen to create a successful, stylish, and sought after label.

My first Tamara Mellon purchase (and one of my favorite pieces in my closet!) is this leather fringe skirt, a garment that has quickly become Mellon’s trademark and most coveted piece. From the perfect fit and flattering shape, to the butter soft leather and long fringe giving it un peu de mouvement. The right amount of edgy, confident yet playful and flirtatious, what better skirt to strut the streets of Soho and beyond?

In today's fashion sphere it seems conscious consumers are looking for more than just draping themselves in cool threads. There is a growing need to feel connected; to align with the lifestyle of a brand. Transcendent style. A quality that I truly appreciate about Tamara Mellon—first hand I saw the effort she makes to connect with her clientele. After posting an Instagram photo wearing my favorite fringe skirt, Mellon found me, liked and commented on the photo, then reposted it on her Instagram. A small gesture with a large and lasting impact, enabling me to write this article. It is that positive interaction and personal touch which sets this new label apart, a feeling that is translated by wearing Mellon's design. Many would agree, it takes genuine passion, attention to detail and a connection to your clientele to create a powerhouse business that will not only grow, but will withstand the test of time.
