The Coal Boxer

Location: Port Reading, McMyler Coal DumperAt its prime this coal dumper would turn a 72-ton load of coal upside down onto a barge  every two and half minutes.  Constructed in 1917, this machine brought energy to New York City during the industrial age and is the last standing of its kind.Eerie and beautiful in its abandoned state, this site tells a historically significant tale about the life blood of early Manhattan. The pure power and feat of this man made machinery resonates through the silent darkness within its rusty mangled caverns.
