NYFW Trends: Shear Bliss

With this look I interpreted a few details which inspired me during last weeks fashion shows. I began by layering a long leather coat under a cropped shearling jacket, creating visual lines of varying lengths, an opportunity to mix fabrics and textures. Before shearling made its way down the runways of NYFW, it was already making a strong statement on the streetsβ€”those in the know already donning the seasons coziest essential. Kanye was spotted in London a few days ago wearing a vintage Vivienne Westwood shearling coat, if you needed anymore convincing.

The neckline of next season: All or nothing at all. From the chest baring deep V dΓ©colletage to finding your inner Steve Job’s by stocking up on a vast assortment of mock turtlenecks. Whether it is a turtleneck, a simple piece of cloth around the collar or a statement chocker, finding a creative way to adorn the neck is key. One of the most intriguing (and totally free!) ways to decorate your head mantle is the effortless tuck of the hair into a turtleneck, coat, or scarf, a look I instantly fell for at Sally LaPointe’s afterparty, by the designer herself. One British designer took this idea to the extreme and used hair as a neck accessory!

To juxtapose 'covering up' several designers showed deep V neck tops and dresses in their collections (Jason Wu, Victoria Beckham, DVF, J. Mendel.) The best thing to do: Combine both styles by wearing a turtleneck under a plunging V neck (ThakoonMara Hoffman, Delpozo.) Here, I decided to take it one step further and layer a high necked lace blouse under a V neck sweater, the ultimate Fall 2015 trendfecta. (Zimmermann, Thakoon)

Lace turtlenecks and pants are considered next seasons basics β€”a continuation of the leg veil, and now chest veil, leaving a bit more to the imagination while retaining a sensual mystery in covering up.

Completely bare legs? Out. Cover them with black opaque leggings, polka dot tights or Proenza Schouler’s monster fishnets. When in doubt, wear laceβ€”or any sheer fabric you can get your hands on . . . over and under everything!
