No Filter, Just Glossier
Gorgeous skin is truly a reflection of good health and well being, starting from the inside out—completing every look as your best and most alluring accessory.
Revealing and concealing the skin all over the body is one of my favorite aspects of style, with its limitless possibilities and unique way of captivating. Therefore getting that healthy glow all over is key.
You’ve heard it all before, hydration is important, both water consumption and topical moisturizing. And recently the tides have been shifting when it comes to makeup, leaning in a more natural and unfussy direction. If you’re looking for the perfect ‘no make-up’ make-up and affordable skincare, may I introduce you to Glossier.
Remember, prepping your skin for makeup is just as important, if not more important than the actual make-up application itself. Here are my spark notes for some of my favorite Glossier products:
Soothing Face Mist: With its light rose aroma the Soothing Face Mist is my favorite to spray on first thing in the morning, moments after opening my eyes, as a wonderfully delicate and refreshing way to wake up. I would also recommend using the mist throughout the day to reset the skin. Summer in NYC definitely calls for a product like this because there’s nothing like a cool refreshing rose scented mist on a hot and humid day.
Stretch Concealer: I apply Glossier’s Stretch Concealer to any spots I feel need extra coverage. Usually right under the eyes, center of the chin and corners of the the nose does the trick. Once again finger application is best when it comes to blending.
You can also experiment with using a concealer brush to apply and a Beautyblender to buff into the skin.
Perfecting Skin Tint: Referring back to the humidity, a heavy foundation can be hard to pull off during Summer in the city. If you don’t absolutely need it, I find it’s best to stay away from heavy liquid or powder foundations - you want to compliment not cover. I usually apply Skin Tint (light is my shade) directly to the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. I then use my fingers to blend. FYI: All shades of the Perfecting Skin Tint have now been restocked!
Haloscope: This is Glossier’s most recent product. Infused with actual crystals and a moisturizing center, founder and CEO Emily Weiss compared the highlighter to that of a glazed doughnut. Previously I was never into highlighting and now my makeup routine wouldn’t be complete without it. Both Topaz and Quartz are flattering on all skin types, however, at the moment Quartz has been my sheen of choice. Places of application include the cupids bow, inner corners of the eye and the ‘halo’, which is a backwards C shape from your cheekbone to the end of your eyebrow. Quartz will give you that healthy dewy twinkle, especially when it hits the sunlight.
Boy Brow: Brows are the frame of the face and therefore very important. I prefer a natural brow that’s not overly and/or perfectly plucked with a complimentary shape. I use Boy Brow in Blonde to style and lightly enhance the volume of the brow with it’s subtle tint. My favorite part about this product is the small and useful wand which enables you to precisely style your brows.
Generation G: Most of the time one has to choose between a matte lipstick which is usually drying, or a moisturizing lipstick that rubs off your lips within the hour.
Generation G is a happy medium. You get a matte stain that moisturizes and stays put. The best part is how build-able the color is. There are currently four different shades: Cake, Like, Crush and Jam. I gravitated towards Like because it brings out my natural lip color without actually looking like I applied anything. If I wanted to create a bolder lip, I would simply swipe on a few more layers. Wearing lipgloss (and even certain lipsticks) can look too done for my style and taste. I’ve noticed recently that I tend to gravitate towards lips that do not have sparkle and shimmer. Generation G is something I keep in my purse and will wear and re-apply throughout the day without fuss, knowing that it’s accentuated the natural color of my lips.
Balm Dot Com: This skin salve was the first product produced by Glossier, and for that reason has universal appeal. Any spot that needs a little extra moisture is worthy of the Balm Dot Com. Eyelids, elbows, cheekbones, lips and cuticles alike are all welcome. About three months ago the Balm Dot Com family expanded with three flavors: Cherry, Mint and Rose. Cherry is my favorite because it adds a small hint of color to my lips and smells like the my childhood cherry flavored Chapstick.
Moisturizing Moon Mask: A cult favorite, the Moon Mask leaves my skin bright, moisturized and rejuvenated. I leave it on for 20 minutes and rinse. Sometimes when my skin needs an extra dose of moisture I apply a thin layer to my face before falling asleep and use it as a deep moisturizer.
