Tell A Story With Your Style: MFW Day 3

This combination of red brocade Prada dress and my Marine Corps uniform just felt right.

Prada's FW16 collection prominently features a sailor/Navy theme with pea-coats accessorized with sailor hats and white lace up corsets. I personally wanted to infuse my own military past into the look by layering with my Marine Corps short sleeve shirt complete with ribbons and Staff Sergeant chevrons.

When traveling for fashion weeks I always bring pieces of my uniform with me, as I'm always trying to find ways to incorporate them into my style—a way of infusing my past into the present—not to mention a conversation starter! I met a fellow Marine veteran in Milan because of this outfit, Robert Spangle of @1000yeardstyle working in fashion as a photographer. What a pleasure it was to meet Robert and know that there is another Marine in fashion!

I find this to be such an important part of personal style, you must always make your appearance your own, a reflection of who you are, who you were and who you want to be. Tell a story with your style.

With this look I enjoy the juxtaposition of the utilitarian and ultra feminine, I find masculine femininity to be the most alluring. I paired this with a quilted Prada handbag and Chanel clogs with white leather socks.
