Trend Report: Sheer
Sheer fabric, especially in the form of the 'leg veil' has been picking up steam since 2012 and continues to go strong. Often I recall Elie Saab's SS12 collection, at the time it was difficult to find sheer gowns, and that is exactly what I was looking for in a wedding gown. The layering of sheer fabrics adored with beautifully placed applique is what sparked the idea to design my own wedding attire—a long sleeve gown with sheer lace details, which included a rounded leg veil.
Sheer details add an element of intrigue and surprise to an ensemble—mysteriously sensual and ultra feminine. This season designers such as Lanvin, Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana embraced ‘free the nipple’ on the runway with sheer tops and gowns, although it may not be appropriate in your day to day outfits. Here are some items that (hopefully) won’t make your mother faint at Christmas dinner.
