Peter and I were so honored to attend this very special event, Bill is someone we have both admired for many years. Together we were photographed by Bill in 2015.Moving to New York City 3 years ago as a complete outsider working tirelessly to break into fashion, Bill was a person I thought of often. Dedication is a word that comes to mind. No matter what, come rain or shine, Bill was out there documenting and following his dream with a smile.
Bill Cunningham was a man who brought heart and unwavering passion to an industry known for being flippant and uninviting. Yet he gained respect to the likes of which few have ever accomplished. He had a talent for maneuvering around NY's elite like no other and was beloved by all. It was what he brought out in those he pointed his camera at, which set him apart. They will always remember how he made them feel.
To see his memorial bring tears to the eyes of some of fashions most emotionally stoic was a hopeful and beautiful thing. For one afternoon fashion had feeling, and I'll never forget that.
