I was born and raised in a diverse community in th

I was born and raised in a diverse community in the inner city of Buffalo, NY in the 80’s / 90’s ⁣
One block from Kleinhans Music Hall and blocks from the Peace Bridge connecting the US & Canada. ⁣
⁣
As an adult I also lived in the inner city of Rochester, NY and in the Trinidad neighborhood of Northeast DC for most of my 20’s. This is was home feels like to me. ⁣
⁣
I grew up along side black, brown and white boys and girls. I am grateful for this perspective that has shaped the person I am. ⁣
⁣
As a child you don’t see color, I didn’t know anything else. That was normal. All you know is “I like you and I want to play with you.” I grew up believing that this is how all children live and that what I saw, everyone saw. I didn’t know any different. ⁣
⁣
There was a point at which I began to notice something, I felt struggle when I was in the homes of my black friends, it was heavy, but I couldn’t process why or where it came from at the age of 6, 7, 8 . . . ⁣
⁣
Now that I reflect and analyze, I was feeling the energy of oppression, the product of hundreds of years of injustice, that even a child could notice and absorb, yet I didn’t know why at the time. I began to see a difference, yet in my mind we weren’t different because of the color of our skin. It just didn’t register, I didn’t know history. I couldn’t understand color because we were side by side living together, I could only understand feeling. ⁣
⁣
Growing up in that diverse community, I didn’t know racism, my family, neighbors, teachers and friends never taught hate and discrimination. I was able to think freely and absorb everything at face value for what it was. ⁣
⁣
And I wish I could take this experience in the palm of my hands and implant it in the minds of those who need it.⁣
⁣
This is where it starts, this is how we change, from the minds of children. Let them be free, let them come to their own conclusions. Minds are infected by Racism. ⁣

This video just made me cry. Children are Hope. Let’s lead by example, we have to do something different, we have to do something we’ve never done before in order to put a stop to this vicious, never ending cycle of injustice and hate. We must be better for these innocent little souls!! Maybe that’s what made tears pour out of my eyes watching this mini embrace. It will take Compassion, that is the key. Compassion means trying with all your Might, using all your Will to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, to remove yourself from your personal trauma, privilege and experiences, and actually treat others, people of all colors, better than they treat you and would or could treat you. That takes the ultimate strength and Love. How else will we get better, if we are not willing to sacrifice and fight for the oppressed and what we believe, then we will never break out of this cycle. #blacklivesmatter #justiceforgeorgefloyd

Today at 3:22pm we embarked on a new era of spaceflight. The first privately developed @spacex spacecraft to launch humans into Earth’s orbit. Elon Musk launched two @nasa astronauts into space aboard the Crew Dragon, currently on their way to the international space station, 19 hrs away. A moment of history making Hope amidst the turmoil of America.
